Integrity Coach Lines travel from Perth to Hedland on the inland road and return once a week. Have you considered visiting any of the towns along the way? Each is unique with its own atmosphere. There’s New Norcia, Mount Magnet, Meekatharra, Newman and more.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

New Norcia       

New Norcia is the only monastic town in Australia. The town was founded by the Spanish Benedictine Monks in 1847.  It was a mission and a monastery and is now a spiritual retreat. In New Norcia you can join one of the 2 hours town walking tours that runs twice a day, this gives you the opportunity to view inside some of the amazing historical buildings. There is also the museum which has displays of church memorabilia, the girls’ orphanage era and a collection of Charles Austin Gardner botanic drawings.The Art Gallery contains a European section which has works dating from the 16th century and an Australian Contemporary section comprising of religious art.  This is a truly unique town where the extraordinary buildings are set in the Australia countryside.

Mount Magnet

Mount Magnet was a mining and pastoral town in the past and hence has its own Mining and Pastoral Museum which has artefacts from the gold mining era in the later 1890’s.The town has a marked “Heritage Walk” around the town, follow the walk on the map which also gives more info on each place marked which gives a great insight into the town.  Depending on the time of the year you visit you may also see the wonderful array of wildflowers in bloom.

Cue

Cue has a number of historical buildings, these can be viewed from the road when walking around the town, click on the map which lists each building, you can then design your own walk to take in the buildings that you are interesting in viewing.   The most popular time to visit Cue is July to October when the wildflowers

Meekatharra

Meekatharra was a gold rush town in the 1890’s and features a lot of relics and old pits around the area.  Follow the Meeka Lookout Trail, it’s a 900m walk and has interpretive signs and stunning views over the town and rangelands from the top.  The Meeka Rangelands Trail (also known as the Creek Trail) is an easy 3km walk and has 17 interpretive panels along the way to explain the towns natural sights, indigenous and cultural history including the State Battery. The Meekatharra Museum holds memorabilia and many photo’s relating to the history of the town, you may like to visit as you go past on walk. Make sure you pack plenty of water when walking around any of the outback towns.

Meeka, as it's referred to by the locals, hold their annual "Meekatharra Outback Festival and Races", usually in September and combines a few days of fun for everyone.

Newman

Newman was formally established for mining purposed in 1968 though the Martu people, indigenous people had lived on the lands across the area for approx. 26000 years.   If you wish to see a working mine site then the BHP Billiton MT Whaleback Mine Tour has a 1.5 hour tour that leaves from the Newman Visitor Centre each morning.  They do require 4 participants, so call the Visitor Centre first to ensure there are enough going and to book your seat.  You will need fully enclosed shoes, long sleeved tops and long pants and it is suggested to bring your water bottle as well.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN NEW NORICA, MOUNT MAGNET, CUE AND MEEKATHARRA

You can walk around the towns in New Norcia, Mount Magnet, Cue and Meekatharra.  Newman has a taxi service available if you need it.

HOW TO GET THERE AND BACK

Perth to New Norcia & return from New Norcia to Perth

Integrity Coach Lines have a bus that travels from Perth to New Norcia once a week on a Tuesday evening.  It arrives in New Norcia late at night so please ensure you have booked your accommodation prior to arrival.   Spend the Wednesday and Thursday exploring the area and then the coach departs New Norcia heading back to Perth in the early Friday morning.  

(Note: WA pensioners can use their free trip vouchers).

Perth to Mount Magnet & return Mount Magnet to Perth

Integrity Coach Lines have a bus that travels from Perth to Mount Magnet once a week on a Tuesday evening.  It arrives in Mount Magnet in the early hours of Wednesday morning so please ensure you have booked your accommodation prior to arrival.   Spend the Wednesday and Thursday exploring the area and then the coach departs Mount Magnet heading back to Perth late Thursday night.

Perth to Cue & return Cue to Perth

Integrity Coach Lines have a bus that travels from Perth to Cue once a week on a Tuesday evening.  It arrives in Cue in the early Wednesday morning.   Spend the Wednesday and Thursday exploring the area and then the coach departs Cue heading back to Perth late Thursday night.

Perth to Meekatharra & return Meekatharra to Perth

Integrity Coach Lines have a bus that travels from Perth to Meekatharra once a week on a Tuesday evening.  It arrives in Meekatharra on Wednesday morning.   Spend the Wednesday and Thursday exploring the area and then the coach departs Meekatharra heading back to Perth on Thursday night.

Perth to Newman & return Newman to Perth

Integrity Coach Lines have a bus that travels from Perth to Newman once a week on a Tuesday evening. It arrives in Newman in time for a late lunch on Wednesday.   Spend the Wednesday afternoon and Thursday exploring the area (Note: if you are doing the whaleback mine tour then pre-book before travelling for the Thursday morning). The coach departs Newman heading back to Perth on Thursday afternoon. 

(Note: WA pensioners can use their free trip vouchers between Perth and Meekatharra and then pay for the travel between Meekatharra and Newman).

Capture glimpses of various towns along the way if you are using an Express ticket (point to point ticket). If you are using a Hop on Hop off pass then you may wish to stop and enjoy other towns for a couple of days rather than just pass through.  The choice is yours!
