Travel and your Safety

Travel and your Safety

Travel is one of the most educational, liberating and fulfilling experiences that anyone can do. There is a lot of thought that goes into planning travel and while there are a lot of resources available to help with that side of things, nothing betters personal intuition and taking responsibility for our own safety and well-being.

It is not necessarily true to say that travelling with others is a safer option than travelling solo.  We see solo travellers every day, both male and female, of all age groups and from all around the world. But it is true to say that whether you travel with a friend, in a group or on your own, that safety is paramount and we do our best to educate people about being responsible for keeping themselves and their belongings safe and secure while travelling.

Here are some tips that you can follow whether using an Express ticket or Hop on Hop off pass, to feel that you have made your safety a top priority:

Research:                 Knowledge is power.  Make sure you know where you are going to when you reach your next stop.  Have your accommodation booked, work out how you will get there and a general idea of what you will be doing while you are there.  Visitors Centres are an excellent resource and a great source of local information about seasonal operators, facilities available and accommodation to suit all budgets.  Most can even help with pricing and bookings over the phone.  Use your down time to research your next destination if you do not have a full itinerary already planned. (Or if you like to do things on the fly – use the travel time on the coach to go over or plan the next part of your adventure).

Sightseeing:            Sightseeing as part of a self-guided tour – such as Integrity’s Hop on Hop off Pass - is a great way to meet, socialise with like-minded travellers and to see the best of a destination because you are not limited to someone else’s schedule. Book sightseeing and interactive activities with experienced guides or those who are educated in their field. It is money well spent as you can confirm bookings and some offer the added safety of a pickup and drop off service to your accommodation.  Getting around in some towns can also be expensive as not everything is within walking distance! Sometimes you can get a great deal if you book online directly with the provider too. Check out our partner’s page for operators who offer our passengers a discount!

Stay-Connected.jpg

Stay connected:     Keep in constant contact with family and friends.  Let them know your plans and leave your accommodation information with them should they need to get hold of you. WA is notorious for communication “black spots” so relying on your trusty mobile is not always the best and only option.  Even posting to social media is a great way to stay connected and let everyone know you are not only having a great time, but you are safe. Keep your belongings in eyesight:       Ensure you know where your wallet, camera, phone, iPad or laptop are and keep track of them at all times.  This may mean putting everything into a small secure bag and making a habit of replacing them into the bag after every use.  This way you only need to monitor one thing.  It is not encouraged to keep phones, wallets and smaller items in pockets as they can be easily lifted, or fall out without you knowing. As an added precaution, take a photo of your vital documents and store them somewhere like the Cloud or DropBox, so should anything happen and you need a copy of the information, it’s there for reference.

Travel-Insurance.jpg

Travel Insurance:   While all care is taken, unexpected things can happen.  And most times, they happen when you are least expecting it.  Make sure when you are researching, to have a read of each provider’s terms and conditions so you know what rights you have and under what circumstances you are covered by the company.  We highly recommend taking out suitable travel insurance for those unforeseen times when things do not go as planned.  It really gives a peace of mind worth having.

First and foremost though pack your common sense.  Keep your wits about you and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Listen to your instincts.

Contact us if you have any questions or if we can assist with the best travel option or itinerary tailored to suit you.

We look forward to welcoming you on-board one day very soon!

Safe and Happy Travelling!
