What did the sun say when it reappeared after an eclipse?

Next month, on the 20th April 2023, the North West of Western Australia will be extremely busy with people coming to see the solar eclipse. The main locations being Exmouth, Coral Bay and Onslow.  In Exmouth it's a 100% total solar eclipse.  Coral Bay and Onslow have a 99% solar eclipse.  However, if you are happy to see a partial eclipse, then Carnarvon, Denham, Monkey Mia, Karratha, Hedland & Tom Price have over a 90% solar eclipse. Broome, Newman, Kalbarri and Geraldton will have over an 80% solar eclipse.  Our services will be running according to our normal timetable during this time so you may like to check out the map to find a vantage point and destination where you can still get accommodation.

Make sure you view the eclipse safely to avoid damage to your eyes. A google search will give you lots of options but do ensure you are buying genuine articles for viewing. Given the volume of people attending the main areas, it is advisable to bring essential items with you.

However, if you'd rather avoid the crowds then you may wish to plan your own adventure that avoids the Ningaloo area on that date.

Broome is Yawuru country and can be experienced through taking part in one of the Indigenous tours, where you can learn about Aboriginal history, bush tucker, the stolen generation and the pearling history.  You may also wish to visit the art galleries where Aboriginal artists display their work.

Then there is the pearling industry which attracted pearl divers from China, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines, hence the reason Broome is so multicultural today.  Shinju Matsuri is the Festival of the Pearl, this is a multiday event.  If you are thinking of attending then obtain a programme first so you can decide which days suit your interests so you make the most of the experience.
