Dowerin Field Day

With lovely weather around, what better way to enjoy it but to get out and about!  We sent two coaches to Dowerin Field Day again this year, one was a private charter from Rockingham and the other was for members of the public who wished to travel from Burswood.  Passengers from both buses had a really enjoyable day.  The sun was shining beautifully while they wandered around and looked at the huge amount of exhibits, enjoyed lunch at one of the many food stalls, checked out the machinery, animals, stalls, exhibits and demonstrations.  Then a relaxing trip back to the metro area.

York Festival

Like the idea of a day trip?   The York Festival is held over two weeks, however we have chosen Saturday 1st October to travel there for the day as there is a nice variety of shows, events, exhibitions, workshops, walks & tours including music, dance, arts & crafts. Did you know you can do a tour of the sock factory and visit the Sandalwood Letterpress Museum as well.  For more details check our website here which shows what is on, how to book the events and tours that are of interest to you and also  to book your transport.  This will be wonderful day out.

Other Inland Towns from Perth to Hedland

Did you know our bus also travels inland from Perth to Hedland?  This includes the towns of New Norica, Dalwallinu, Mount Magnet, Meekatharra & Newman as well many smaller places.   There's a lot of history in many of these towns. 

New Norcia: Founded in 1847 by 2 Spanish Benedictine Monks. Except for the Australian bush, you could be excused for thinking you're walking through a village in Europe because you are surrounded by magnificent architecture. The town has worn many hats in history and provided a mission, a monastery, a school and even now, a place of spiritual sanctuary.   With a museum, the art gallery and a daily town tour, there is plenty to do for a day or two. 

Mt Magnet: As one of the Mid West regions original mining towns, Mt Magnet has endured to become the longest gold mining settlement in WA, with open cut mining still in operation today. The Mount Magnet Mining and Pastoral Museum is a great insight into the history surrounding the area.  The Rock display is also a visitor favourite.

Cue: From 19^th century buildings to thousands of year old Aboriginal rock art, the peaceful town of Cue is surrounded by the allure of history.  A true Outback town, coloured with an assortment of red hues, make a magnificent backdrop for the wildflower season between July and October. If you are interested in astrology, Cue has magnificent uninterrupted views of the night sky, making it an ideal location for star gazing and night time photography.

Meekatharra: A Yamatji word meaning “place of little water”, Meekatharra is the largest shire in the Murchison. There are plenty of walking and discovery trails, a museum and an abundance of history to this town.  It is also a hub to the established mines and mineral exploration companies for resources such as stores, fuel and other convenience services.

Newman: Sits on the traditional lands of the Nyiyarparli people. The Martu people are the present custodians.  Not only is it a resource mining town, it is a significant regional centre which has many services available for travellers such as a shopping precinct, restaurants, hotels, motels, a recreation centre and swimming pool.  The countryside is striking with blue, green and red colours of the outback, natural waterholes, early aboriginal art sites and plenty of Australian plant and wildlife.  The Whalebone Mine Tour is also available from Newman.

Port Hedland:  Port Hedland isn't inland but it's the end point for out bus that travelles the inland road.  Hedland is well-known for its opulent resource industry and one of the world’s largest and busiest working harbours.  The Seafarers Centre can be contacted to book on the popular "Harbour Tour", the tour shows you how a working harbour operates. But it’s also a town rich in Indigenous history, pioneering history, wildlife and great for fishing, crabbing, whale watching and turtle nesting. 

Also well-known is South Hedland a self-sufficient satellite town and the central business district of Port Hedland.

Flat back sea turtles nest only on Australian beaches and from October to March, so Hedland’s coastal beaches are home to hundreds of the turtles as they nest and hatch their younglings. If you would like to visit with the turtles, it is advised to contact “Care for Hedland Environmental Association” who manage the turtle monitoring program, for more information on their guided evening tours.

Self-guided tours using the street art map, allow art enthusiasts to enjoy exploring the alleyways and streets of the west end which is said to be home to some of the best street art in the region.

Port Hedland Visitor Centre offer a great and personal insight into the town with a weekly event called Tales of Hedland, where a different member of the community shares their story and experiences of Port Hedland.

If you wish to travel to any of the destinations on our inland route, ensure you have accommodation booked prior to travel and if it's a late arrival arrange for the key or combination to be left out for you.   

Northbound: Departs Perth Tuesday night at 11pm and arrives in Hedland on Wednesday at 8.15pm.

Southbound: Departs Port Hedland at 9am and South Hedland Shopping centre at 9.40am and arrives in Perth on Friday morning at 6am.

If in Perth it means you colud travel north with us and go to any one of the destinations for a day or two (depending where you choose to visit) and then get back on our service when it travels south or alternatively stay a week.
